Once upon a time …

Yesterday, the snow fell & for me this magical scattering of snowflakes signalled winters arrival.

We played in the snow most of the morning and then spent the afternoon snuggled up under a blanket drinking warm milk watching movies & reading books.

The girls love getting cozy and listening to a good story. They have their usual favourites which they insist on each evening at bedtime, but I decided each month to introduce a new book. This month was ‘ The Princess and the Pea’ which was a lovely christmas gift from some friends.

I had already brought the bedding & the girls love looking for the ‘pea’ in their bed !

I’ve found a Valentine’s inspired one for next month and if your over on Instagram I’ll be sharing our monthly books over there.

If you have any suggestions for must reads I’d love to hear them.

Fall Hall – Autumn Decor Update

This week I’ve been finishing off decorating the hallway with some seasonal accessories ! It’s looking very autumnal and making me want to snuggle up and eat apple pie and drink hot chocolate ! As we had a change in the weather I decided to bring in the pumpkin patch sign and leaf garland from the garden and use it in the hall display.

I found these amazing candles this week ! I was so pleased – They smell gorgeous and I love the seasonal names ! The little pumpkins on them are really sweet as well !

I found an autumn print online and i just printed and framed it.

My friend came to visit in the week and brought me some lovely sunflowers and I finished off with a basket of pumpkins/squash and a scarecrow !

So I’ve just got the front of the house to do next !

August Showers – Autumns coming !

This week has definatly seen a shift in the weather. Today I wore my Uggs on our afternoon stroll and as we headed home through the rain,  with the trees blowing leafs in our path I smiled….. Autumns just around the corner ! I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love autumn it’s my favourite season and I love everything about it. The burnt auburn colours, the crisp morning air and the dusky evenings spent snuggled under blankets and of course Halloween !

image

Yesterday, I took the girls to a country fair and the upcoming season change was evident. After pushing the double buggy through the hay fields (exhausting !) you were greeted with craft and food stalls dotted around hay bale tables and chairs.

I tried some yummy pumpkin spiced cake and I was hooked ! This morning it was raining heavily so it was the perfect time to stay inside and bake. The girls played with spatulas while Nat King Cole played on the radio – my perfect kind of Sunday ! I had a really quick recipe for the cake and I used cream cheese frosting and cinnamon sugar for the topping – it was yummy ! Perfect with a cup of tea !

So preparations for the new season are underway, I’ve picked out my seasonal candles , the decor for the house and the theme for Halloween ! (Check back for more autumn updates over the next few weeks ! )

The Uggs are out and the chunky knits are hanging eagerly waiting to be worn ! Roll on September !

A Crafty Retreat

I can’t believe that we are already in August ! I have really enjoyed our warm summer this year but I love love love autumn and I find myself starting to look forward to the dusky evenings and digging out the knitwear ! It’s my favourite time of year and I love to decorate the house to celebrate the start of autumn. My two favourite holidays are Halloween and Christmas and I love decorating and planning for this time of year !

Talking of Christmas I have had to start planning for my craft projects now. The memories from mummy shop will return with some new holiday pieces and the santa letters ! I’m hoping to launch in October this year so keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates !

As the girls are into everything now I really needed some space to do all my projects so this weekend we sorted out the spare room and I now have a little area to create and craft ! Everything has it’s place and I’m happy I can get all my crafty bits organised!

imageimage

I hung paper pom poms from the ceiling to add to the girly crafty theme !

imageimage

I love this little wooden sewing box and it’s perfect to keep crafty bits and bobs tidy. I use lots of different jars to store labels and embellishments.  I found the blue plate rack in a vintage store and it’s perfect for holding envelopes, papers and stickers.  Above it I used adhesive hooks and dowl to display ribbons and tags !

I can’t wait to start working on some projects  !

Love letters

So we are working our way through decorating the house and the rooms are coming together.  I spend quite a lot of time thinking about the ‘theme ‘ or design for the room so it often means it takes a while to find the perfect colour or accessories.  Today I’m sharing our downstairs w/c. It’s very small and just off the hallway so I wanted the decor to all tie in. I decided that I wanted a vintage travel feel – I wanted it to feel like an old station house with suitcases and bags of post filling the platforms !

I found the postcard wallpaper and was so pleased with how it turned it. I went for a chalk pink for the walls as the postcard love letters set a romantic tone and the pink works well alongside it.  In keeping with the romance I found the perfect heart wicker mirror for the wall and to finish off I added some vintage style suitcases , perfect for storing extra toilet paper or hand lotions in !

The hall is still a work in progress so I will do an update on that when it’s done.

Seeking a sole mate !

I’ve been working on trying to get the kitchen finished and it’s almost there. I am quite impatient when it comes to getting things done and pretty much want everything done yesterday. Unfortunately lack of both time and money means everything takes a bit longer now !

Still, it’s painted and there is just some tiling to do, so I’ve taken to doing the finishing touches !

I wanted to create a little laundry accessory area, so I painted a pine wooden shelf and twin daddy fixed it onto the wall and it was ready to accessorise !

I saw a ‘seeking sole mates’ sign on the internet and thought I would give it a go and try and make my own. I had lots of left over paint sample pots and brought a cheap wooden sign for £1 that I could use.
After painting the sign I used stencils to mark out the wording, then I stuck on some Dolly pegs and some of the girls odd socks and it was done !

imageimage

I loved the vintage feel of the Dolly pegs and thought it would be nice to store them in a glass jar. I filled a basket with pastel washing up brushes and cloths and framed a laundry print. I found a cute peg bag that adds to the shabby chic feel of the kitchen and fixed some hooks to the shelf to display it. I added some ‘ Laundry’ signs to finish off the look !

If your a bird, I’m a bird….. A Notebook inspired bedroom.

Those who know me will know my favourite film is ‘ The Notebook’ I have watched it a million times and cried just as much each time ! I love romance so when I was thinking about decorating the bedroom I thought I would take inspiration from my love of all things romantic and of course ‘The Notebook ‘.  Once I had convinced twin daddy this didn’t involve posters of Ryan Gosling hanging from the walls he seemed to relax and get on board.

The first thing I found was the wall quote and this was the basis for the design. I thought it would be nice to go with a bird theme and as it was already going to be girly and romantic I thought it would help if I avoided pink and went for a cream and duck egg blue colour scheme !

imageimage

I spent months looking for the perfect wallpaper and I finally found it ! I love the little birds and the postcard details , just like romantic love notes !

image

I found a really cute shelf that I thought would look great above the bed and I accessorised it with a cream bird cage, candles and books. I love the green wooden quote with the little bird carved into it !

imageimage

imageimage

I wanted a little nook where I could retreat to if I felt like chilling out in the bedroom so I made up a little reading corner, I’m thinking it will be so snugly on a winter evening snuggled under a throw drinking hot chocolate !

image

I went for plain bedding as the bed backs up to the wallpapered wall. I just added some cushions with details and a couple of throws. At the end of the bed I put a table Twin daddy painted (we found it at a car boot sale) and I added some suitcases on top.

A few few final touches included a framed quote from the film, a vintage nightdress on a bird hook and some romantic signs and mirrors.

Teaspoon cookies !

I was really excited to get some new baking items and couldn’t wait to try them out.  The household finally seems to be feeling better so I thought I would do some baking this afternoon. I’ve never used silicone bakeware before but they were really simple and very quick to clean up too !

imageimage

I decided to make some chocolate chip shortbread cookies in the teaspoon mold and they turned out really cute ! I also ordered some really sweet cello bags and thought the little spoons in the bags would be really nice to give to friends to invite around for a cuppa ! I still have a teacup cookie cutter to try out so will give that a try over the next couple of weeks !

Paint me pretty !

I turned 33 this weekend ! Lovely family and friends totally spoilt me and I had a great weekend. Twin daddy brought me a day on a furniture painting course which I am really excited about ! I got into up cycling a little bit last year and have just started doing some more so, it’s going to be great to go on the course and hopefully pick up some hints and tips !  I’m hoping to sell a few pieces so I want them to look good !

Anyway, here is the first piece I did – I was really pleased with how it turned out and I’m hoping the next piece will turn out nicely I’m half way through it so I will update you all once it’s done !
