On the 1st Day of Christmas

December is almost upon us ! I’ve been busily preparing for the upcoming festivities and I am so excited to start this years Advent of Traditions !

For the girls first Christmas we started to do daily traditions in the lead up to Christmas and I can’t believe this will be their third Christmas !

I love the build up to Christmas Eve and the daily tradition helps build the excitement throughout the month !

This year I have made little cards with all the traditions on and I was so delighted so many of you wanted to join in the festivities this year with your own families.

Im going to be updating our advent over on Instagram each day throughout December and it would be lovely to see your families photos too !

I love that the advent helps me focus on the little joys of the season and I hope it’s something the girls will enjoy doing more and more each year.

Who you gonna call ?

I’m not quite sure what happened to October ! It seemed to fly past in an instant – maybe because I had been looking forward to it for so long and suddenly it was upon us and before I knew it November had arrived.

It ended of course, with halloween celebrations ! This year I decided to go with a ghostbusters theme. I found some cute costumes for the girls to wear and dotted some decorations around to give a nod to the theme.

We spent the week doing spooky activities ! The fog was gathering around us whilst we hunted pumpkins & little witches made potions amongst the autumn leaves.

Travel was strictly by haunted train !

A haunted circus entertained the little ghostbusters whist the search for the perfect pumpkin continued !

All that ghost busting is hungry work, so I made sure to put on a scary feast for the girls !

I can’t quite pack away the pumpkins just yet but if October was anything to go by Christmas will be here before I know it !

Halloween & Autumn finds !

I’m snuggled up under a blanket & drinking hot chocolate, The rain is pouring down outside and my pumpkin candle is keeping a cozy glow around me. It feels very autumnal so I thought I’d share some of my autumn and halloween finds with you.

I’m currenlty on a once a month visit at Homesense as the temptation to buy is too much ! They honestly have the best house decor and I rarely come away empty handed ! I especially love this time of year when all their autumn and halloween pieces are in store.

As soon as I stepped into the store I spotted this wreath – I love it and it currently has pride of place in the kitchen.

I love halloween and decorate from the beginning of October, and I can’t wait to dot these pieces around ! The tiny diamanté details on these are really pretty.

I think this trick or treat glass plate will be perfect for some spooky nibbles & I plan to dish out the ‘ treats ‘ from the pumpkin cauldron !

My final find is something I found & used loads last year – tinned pumpkin ! Perfect for lots of yummy treats over autumn and without the hassle of preparing the pumpkin.

I’ll be sharing more autumn & halloween ideas/finds over the next few weeks & I’d love to know what finds you’ve come across !

Lavender Daze

This week I’m certainly feeling like summer is drawing to a close, the rainy afternoons & first falling leaves by the front door are telling me Autums just around the corner. Autumn is my all time favourite season and I’ve got lots of posts dedicated to ‘ Falling into Fall’ coming up.

But while the summer is still clinging on and the sunshine made a glorious appearance we set off for a day amongst the lavender fields of Hitchin.

As we arrived and parked the car you were immediately met with a lavender filled breeze and I felt myself relax.

The girls set off amongst the rows of flowers with their little bags ready to pick some blooms.

Here we are playing hide and seek amongst the sunflowers !

The scenery, the smells and warm summer afternoon sent me into a lavender daze of happiness & we picked enough to fill the house with flowers & make some bouquets for friends.

If you get the chance to visit it’s well worth a trip and I’m not sure if it was the mountains of lavender scenting the journey home but the girls were asleep by 6pm for the night !

Have a great weekend mamas

Everything stops for Tea…..

I’m just sitting down with a nice cup of tea and cake ! The girls are both napping and this is the one chance of the day I can actually drink a hot cup of tea !

Tea has always been a part of my day. For as long as I can remember my family have always been big tea drinkers – my cousin and I are particularly tea mad. When we get together the pot of tea is constantly being refilled over our endless chatter at the kitchen table.  By far my favourite tea is ‘Barry’s ‘ it’s an Irish blend and just reminds me of my summers spent in Ireland with my family.

I’ve started making tea in travel mugs too – it keeps warm longer and I can rescue another half drunk cup of tea if I transfer it and bring it on our afternoon walks !

My kitchen is filled with tea tributes and I love displaying different tea cups and tea accessories. I found this shelf on Amazon and it looks perfect in the kitchen with plenty of tea items on display.

I got these little tea sets for my birthday. I love the Alice in wonderland tins. I love using the tea infuser to make a ‘ proper’ cup of tea in a pretty cup and saucer !

Of course tea must always be served with cake or biscuits and this little tin is perfect for storing either.

I can’t wait until the girls are old enough to try some tea – they practice pretend tea drinking now with their soft tea set ! It will be so nice to take them for Afternoon Tea , if I could have afternoon tea every day I would ! I love finding new tea rooms especially little vintage inspired ones.  We went to Betty’s in York and it was just lovely – I even got some Betty’s tea !

Once the girls are bigger I will start a little tradition of weekly afternoon tea either at home or as a treat out somewhere I think it’s so nice to sit and chatter over a cup of tea.

Cotton Candy Cupcakes !

It’s finally Friday and these cupcakes were just what I needed ! It’s been a busy week again ! I’ve been trying to drop the girls down to one nap with mixed results ! It’s played havoc with the daytime routine ! They were waking up super early (4.45/5am) and the bewitching hour was beginning at 3 o’clock, however we are making progress and are getting back on track !  Between the early mornings/nap chaos and a 5 hour work commute ( hate the m25!) I’m shattered !

Anyway, it started raining during our afternoon walk today , after only 5 minutes out I was running back home ! I needed something to occupy the girls so I decided to do some quick baking ! I had some candy floss in the cupboard to try out these cupcakes but hadn’t had a chance before so decided to try them !

They definitely gave me a sugar high for the rest of the afternoon ! The girls like watching and playing with the spatulas – and I let them try the cupcakes (minus the frosting and floss – they don’t need any extra energy !) and they went down a treat ! I’ve stored up a batch to get me through the next week !

Farewell Dolly !

So for the last couple of weeks to celebrate Miss Dolly Parton being in the UK I thought that as I was unable to get tickets to the tour, I would bring a touch of the USA and Miss Dolly to us ! We have enjoyed drinking sweet tea, eating BBQ Southern style food, listening to the sounds of Dolly and enjoying a Dolly Movie Night ! Plus of course some southern fashion ! The girls wore blue star leggings and stripe hair bands for the 4th July!

We finished off on the 4th July with some American hot dogs and American treats including waffles with blueberries and maple syrup !

Here’s our tribute to Dolly and the USA in pictures – Happy 4th July y’all !

Ready to say ‘I do !’

In a few weeks one of my friends is getting married ! I love weddings and all the planning that goes with them, so when my sister said I could help with the bridal shower I was so excited ! I wanted it to look pretty and girly so I went for a teal and pink colour scheme.

I tried out a mini desert table with a few yummy sweet treats and I made little ‘ I do’ flags for the cupcakes and added little icing hearts to some of them.  I used a little gel pen (edible) to decorate some of the treats with hearts.

For the decor I hung tissue paper pom poms from the ceiling and made a backdrop from cardboard and polka dot wrapping paper. I made the ‘Miss to Mrs’ banner to hang across the desert table. I used small chalk boards to add messages of love and a countdown to the big day. I used a small mirror as the table focal point and personalised it with a chalk pen and a candy bar.

I wanted the bride to be to have a keepsake so I filled a jar with wooden spoons so people could leave words of wisdom for the future wife to be ! I added the ribbon and thought the ‘ happily ever after ‘ quote on it was perfect !

I think it turned out really sweet and I can’t wait to do another one !

Home Sweet Home !

So now the girls are one and really starting to enjoy playing with each other I thought it would be nice to get a little playhouse for them.  I looked around for ages and finally found the perfect one ! It’s so pretty and I love all the little details ! It was pretty easy to build and I’m hoping the girls will enjoying playing in it !

I love all the little details and it splits in two so if the girls want some space away from each other they can ! It came with a little puppy ‘ candy floss’ and a friendly butterfly perched on the roof !

It’s actually like my dream cottage with the lace trim, picket fence and flowers growing around the door ! I did actually sit in it the other day and if the girls don’t like it I’ll happily take it !
